Traditional Emirati Meals! Come here :D Reem Al Bawadi

Reem Al Bawadi

Price: Dhs 30-100

“Reem Al Bawadi” is TOTALLY not the place for vegetarian people.
Most of you darlings are not familiar with Arabic/Gulf cuisine,.. Well today I will let you all know about it :D
This place offers only Arabian Gulf/ Emirati food, if you know these countries or you have been here at least once in your lifetime, then you will know they eat MEAT like crazy, beef, lamb, chicken and even camel :p "which I personally hate, I hardly eat chicken breast only"

To brief it, most of the meals in my country are rice with lamb or chicken in different styles and different cooking methods..

The lunch comes in a big box, contains the main meal with 2 different sauces (yogurt and fresh spicy tomatoes salsa). It looks cool and clean if you will compare it to other Emirates Gulf restaurants.
Reem Al Bawadi upgraded a bit from the other typical Gulf/Yamani/Emirati Restaurants that deliver the food in a plastic plate and hand it to you a plastic bag. Actually, this gave the place few extra thumps up compared to others..
The 1st VERY traditional and popular dish here is "Harees", which is basically wheat is soaked overnight, then simmered in water along with meat and butter. Any remaining liquid is strained and the mixture is beaten and seasoned, It is really good, but I know it doesn't look that good :p
A huge Harees dish for only AED 25, it was good

Bokhari chicken for ONLY AED25 and that orange rice had an AMAZING flavour..and I just love how the box looks :p

Qursan, it was my 1st time trying it, it was thin layers of bread, covered with vegetable stew for only AED 10 (didn't like it, too much oil on top) but loved the vegetarian part of it :p

here is another strange new meal that I tried, called "Mathlootha" same price AED 25 for a whole huge BOX, chicken is covered with fried onions
Ok, so you guys have an Idea now about what I suffer every day with our FULL of MEAT PROTEIN Cuisine here in the Gulf Area :D *just kidding* I can always go veggie as much as I can since I really DO hate seafood and red meat :p

Veggie people <3 Don't hate me :D

  2. I think I would like to try the Harees. Here in Texas, there is always such an abundance of meat, too, just like where you live. I love vegetables, although I do eat a little chicken and fish.

  3. I belong in the same category with you "I hardly eat chicken breasts"! hahaha
Original arabic food, I haven't tasted yet but I have eaten Indian food if it counts! haha
I love international cuisine so I try often to taste different dishes. My only "problem" with arabic food is the so so so many spices that make my stomache hurt! hahahahaha
    Mathlootha really seems tasteful! :)
    Kisses!!

  23. Hi LoLy, I stumbled across your blog when I was looking for a vegetarian restaurant (or a restaurant that at least offers more than one nice veggie dish as main course) in Abu Dhabi... I'll be there in September but I'm already becoming more and more frustrated as nearly every menu I checked online contains only meatmeatmeat! ;-) Could you help me with an insider tip? Is there anything you can recommend? :-) Thank you so much!
    Greetings from Germany!
